The 2nd Outstanding College Summer Camp of the Institute for Human Rights of China University of Political Science and Law successfully concluded


From July 6th to 8th, 2018, The China University of Political Science and Law's Second Excellent College Summer Camp was successfully held at the China University of Political Science and Law College which for three days. The professors were invited to teach this summer camp are well-known scholars and experts in the field of Human Rights in foreign countries, including Professor Zhang Wei, Co-director of the Institute, Professor Ban Wenzhan, Professor Liu Xiaonan, Associate Professor Sun Meng and Professor Brain Burdekin AO. He has extensive teaching and practical experience in the field of Human Rights. Nine students from the third year of undergraduate majors from all over the country participated in this summer camp. 


At the opening ceremony held on the afternoon of July 6, Professor Zhang Wei introduced the specific situation of the Human Rights Research Institute. Professor Ban Wenzhan introduced the relevant situation of human rights subjects. Teachers gave a brief introduction to their research fields. Chen Yichao and Shi Hui introduced the individual's study, employment and experience of internship and study abroad. In addition, the nine participants made self-introductions including undergraduate academic performance, research and social practice, and talked about human rights law, as well as overseas internship opportunities, foreign language requirements, course learning methods, employment status, etc. They asked the teachers and others questions and got a satisfactory reply.

On the morning of July 7, Professor Brain Burdekin AO gave the lectures to the students: what are Human Rights - why should lawyers care about them. Professor Brian Burdekin AO is a visiting professor at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Sweden, an international consultant for human rights institutions in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, and has given extensive lectures on the role of national Human Rights institutions. In 2008, he was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of New South Wales School of Law. In this lecture, Professor Brian Burdekin AO used the Human Rights documents of France and Japan as an example to describe the history of Human Rights change, and understand the development of human rights in China through the Human Rights white papers and Human Rights constitutional events. At the same time, he also describes the necessity of the existence of domestic human rights institutions and the key provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the Vienna Universal Declaration. Finally, he has made his own understanding of the relationship between human Rights and sustainable development.

On the afternoon of July 7, Professor Ban Wenzhan brought a special lecture on the theme of “The Spirit and Characteristics of Human Rights Law”. Mr. Ban gave a comprehensive explanation of the concept of human rights law to the students on the concept of human rights law, including its meaning, scope, form, content and problems. At the same time, the teacher gave a different understanding of the spirit of human rights law and the characteristics of human rights law. Mr. Ban believes that the spirit of human rights law should be "forgiveness," "middle," and "harmony," that is, "respect," "balance," and "harmony." As far as the characteristics of Human Rights Law are concerned, the "law" should be its form, the "right" is its core, and the "people" should be the core of human rights law. In the end, Mr. Ban gave the conclusions of “knowing power”, “keeping responsibilities”, “making oneself”, “profiting people” and “subsidizing powers and responsibilities, self-sufficiency; learning to use, knowing and doing”.  students have a new and deep understanding of Human Rights Law.

On July 8th, all the students participated in the professional written test and interview conducted by the Human Rights Research Institute, and selected the “excellent campers” and “qualified campers” according to the assessment results. When they applied for the postgraduate examination in our school in 2019, they had certain.

 


The three-day Human Rights Law Summer Camp officially ended on the afternoon of July 8. The professors presented certificates and congratulations to all students who successfully completed this summer course, and finally took a group photo.
