The Institute for Human Rights at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) convened its first working conference during the second semester of the school year 2012-2013 on Feb. 26th, 2013. Professor HUANG Jin, the president of CUPL and the dean of Institute for Human Rights has attended and presided over the conference.
President Huang has specified the work arrangements of the Institute for Human Rights, and pointed out that the institute should focus on the following matters:
First, it should focus on the promotion of student admission and attract qualified talents.
Second, the institute should enhance its research ability. Every professor and faculty member are encouraged to refine his or her academic research and strive to become the expert in his or her academic circle.
Third, the institute needs to improve the academic standards and set up a think tank that will contribute to the development of national human rights strategy. Moreover, the institute also needs disseminate the ideas of Human Rights to the general public and educate the society at large to further expand its influences.
To conclude, President Huang pointed out that a step-by-step approach is the most appropriate for achieving such progress. The first step would be to solidify the plans of key projects for this semester and this academic year. Subsequently, advantageous projects such as the Summer Course of Human Rights, and training course for college teachers need to be continued. The Institute for Human Rights should maintain and take advantages of its strengths and play a more important role in the national human rights development.
During the Conference, President Huang Jin also met with Mr. Su Xiaoxi, vice president of GEELY Group, and discussed possible future cooperation.
