Prof.Gudmundur ALFREDSSON, special-term Professor of the Institute for Human Rightsof CUPL, gave lectures to the first-year Master Students and some Ph.D.students for two weeks. He divided the course into five topics, including theIntroduction, the Organization, the Instruments and Their Contents, NationalImplementation and International Monitoring, and the Promotion of Human Rights.All the topics of his course was mainly about the International Human RightsLaw. Prof. Wei ZHANG, Associate Professor, Co-Director of the Institute alsojoined the class.
Ashe did in last year, this year, Prof. Gudmundur also gave students the coursedescription and reading suggestions including relevant websites, instrumentsand some questions to students, which was very thoughtful, so that the studentscould have a better understanding of the course.
In hislectures, Prof. Gudmundur introduced the basic knowledge of the international humanrights law by analyzing the human rights mandate in the UN Charter, introducingseveral UN system special agencies and regional and sub-regional organizations.He shared his opinion on human rights and its significance of people’s dailylife. Besides, he emphasized the influence of promoting human rights on boththe development of countries and the happiness of every single person.
Studentsall learnt a lot mainly about the International Human Rights Law from thistwo-week course. Besides, they had some changes as well. For example, studentsbecame more active in classes, they raised more questions than at thebeginning. Also did the students exercise their English through communicatingwith the professor and reading related articles. All students are looking forwardto professor’s lectures next time.
