The English Version of the “Human Rights” Journal will Officially be Hosted by the Institute for Human Rights

On February 28, 2017, Jin HUANG, the President of CUPL led the Institute to the China Society for Human Rights Studies in order to officially take over the related issues of the English Version of the “Human Rights” Journal. Zheng LI, the Director of the Research Office, Wei ZHANG, the Co-Director of the Institute for Human Rights, and Wenzhan BAN, the Vice Dean of the Institute for Human Rights, attended the meeting.

 

At the handover meeting, Guangjin LU, the Secretary-General of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, gave all his best wishes to the English Version of the “Human Rights” Journal. He also hoped that the Institute for Human Rights can consolidate the journal’s positions as in the fields of propaganda and academia, promote the academic research in the field of human rights, and broaden the influence of the journal at home and abroad.

 

In response to the question of "how to carry out the work of the next stage", President Jin HUANG first clearly pointed out that the functional orientation of the journal is to "set the academic, propaganda and think tank as one", and then he assured that CUPL will mobilize all its resources to fully cooperate with the English Version of the "Human Rights" Journal to develop orderly under the current functional orientation. When referring to the source of contribution, President Jin HUANG suggested to increase the reprint of the articles in the Journal by the authorative journals such as the "Xinhua Digest", and to combine the Journal with the media to strengthen the promotion. Besides, President Jin HUANG also suggested that in order to enhance the discourse of the scholars in the field of human rights at the international level, in addition to the translation of the articles in the Chinese version of the Journal, the English version of the Journal can translate and promote some of good articles in other journals.

 

Director Zheng LI then stressed many advantages of CUPL has in hosting journals, and suggested that the English version of the Journal can bring a certain percentage of the original articles into it, so as to set its future development goal as being an independent publication, and towards the standards of the international core journals.

 

Secretary-General Guangjin LU thought highly of the positive attitude and creative recommendations of our university. He then precisely arranged and deployed the nest phase work of the English Version of the “Human Rights” Journal from the editorial team, source of contribution, funds, distribution channels, layout style and other aspects. The handover was then completed, and the English version of the "Human Rights" Journal will be officially hosted by the Institute for Human Rights from its first issue of 2017.


Attachment: A Brief Introduction to the "Human Rights" Journal

 

The "Human Rights" Journal is the first Chinese domestic academic journal hosted by the China Society for Human Rights Studies. The first issue of the Journal was published in the year of 2002. The Journal is then published every two months in both Chinese and English versions.

 

The tenets of the Journal are: First, to adhere to the correct political orientation; Second, to pursue the academic innovation; Third, to actively promote the understanding of China human rights at home and abroad; Fourth, to comprehensively display and promote the innovation of Chinese theory of human rights; Fifth, to timely pay attention to the progress of international human rights theory and practice; Sixth, to promote the dialogue and communications with the countries in the field of human rights; and Seventh, to make efforts in improving the international influence of the Chinese human rights discourse.

 

The Journal mainly publishes papers with the themes of “Human Rights, Rights and Democracy” on the fields of law, politics, philosophy, economics, history, sociology and so on. Contributions by experts from home and abroad are sincerely welcome!

 

The contributions can be in both Chinese and English and better with no more than 15,000 words (including references and footnotes). Please follow the format of "The Chicago Manual of Style" (16th Edition) format specification.
