“Seminar of Human Rights Law Education among College Teachers in China“ was held in Beijing successfully

“Seminar of Human Rights Law Education among College Teachers in China" was held by Human Rights Institute of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) in Beijing successfully from August 15th, 2012 to August 22nd, 2012. 43 teachers from 35 different universities from all over the country attended the seminar.

The seminar consists of talks, lectures, visits, and group discussions. During the seminar, Professor Ban WenZhan from Human Rights Institute of CUPL, Professor Li BuYun from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Institute of Law, Researcher Sun ShiYan from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Institute of Law, Professor Bai GuiMei from the Law School of Peking University, Researcher Liu BoHong from the Women's Studies Institute of China and Professor Yang GuanYu from Procedural law institute of CUPL successively gave wonderful lectures on 10 topics: the "purpose, content and method of teaching China's human rights law ", "the concept and meaning of human rights and development strategy of human rights in China",  "international human rights standards", "international human rights mechanism", "origin and of international human rights law", "domestic human rights guarantee system", "the principle of equality and non-discrimination in human rights law", "the basic concept and trend of gender mainstreaming and its relationships with women's rights", "the basic framework of the international women's rights and current situation of women's human rights in China" and "the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and criminal justice in China". Professors and experts discussed and communicated with the participants extensively regarding these topics.

The participants visited "Zhicheng Public Interest Lawyers" and discussed the present situation of human rights law education for the purpose of this unit. Participants communicated and shared their outlooks on their future work and what they have learned from this project. Through the above activities, all of the participants received a comprehensive, systematic and in-depth understanding and awareness about the teaching purpose, content and method of China's human rights law education. This seminar also strengthened the sense of responsibility of human rights law education in China and improved the confidence and ability of college teachers by human rights law training.

This workshop is one of the achievements for "China human rights law education research project" instigated by Professor Ban WenZhan. The seminar was fully sponsored by Norway Human Rights Center of Law School at the University of Oslo in Norway and was supported by the financial office of China University of Political Science and Law. Professor Huang Jin, president of CUPL and dean of Human Rights Institute, gave important instructions to the preparations for this seminar. Part of the Human Rights Institute’s staff and postgraduate students provided assistance for the seminar.
