October 21, 2016 - Mr. Tom Zwart, Professor of Human Rights Law of Utrecht University, Director of the Netherlands School of Human Right Research, visited the Institute for Human Rights of CUPL and gave a lecture to the students. Prof. Wei ZHANG, Associated Professor, Co-director of the Institute and all first-year Master students attended the lecture.
The lecture was divided into two stages. In the first stage, it focused on the theme of “Multiple Views on Human Rights". Prof. Tom Zwart shared his opinions with students, which called “a sudden view towards human rights”. There was not only one view like western human right, but also other views on human rights like “China Roads”. Then he reflected what the real meanings of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
In the second stage, Prof. Tom Zwart introduced the process of drafting the UDHR to the students in detail. He highly praised Zhang Pengchun’s outstanding contribution to the UDHR, for participating in the drafting work and expounding China’s views on human rights to the world.
Throughout the lecture, Prof. Tom Zwart encouraged the students to express their views on human rights and answered their questions. The students learned a lot from the lecture and the lecture had a successful conclusion. Thanks so much for Prof. Tom Zwart ’s wonderful lecture .
