On the afternoon of March 29, 2017, teachers and students of the Institute for Human Rights got together for the Graduate Students Training Meeting in the Room B209. Professor Wei ZHANG, the Co-director of the Institute, Professor Wenzhan BAN, the Vice Dean of the Institute, Professor Qinhuo YANG, Associate Professor Meng SUN, the Party Branch Secretary, and Professor Yinlan XIA and Professor Yanping QI, the Doctoral Supervisors, attended the meeting. Baoxing XIAO, Assistant Dean of the Graduate School of China University of Political Science and Law, who was also a doctoral student of the Grade 2008 of the Institute, attended the meeting as school representative. The meeting was chaired by Professor Wei ZHANG.
The meeting began with a comprehensive speaking by Professor Wenzhan BAN. He first introduced the purpose and significance of the meeting, through which the problems of the Institute would be corrected, and the future work of the Institute would be promoted. He then conducted a detailed analysis of the present situation and problems of the work of the Institute from the perspectives of recruitment, training, and graduation, and focused on the analysis of teaching, scientific research and thesis guidance issues in the work of student training. At last, he gave his suggestions on improving the teaching and training work of the Institute.
Associate Professor Meng SUN then introduced the situation, problems and development trend of the Party Branch of the Institute, which include the recruiting of the student Party members, the arrangement of the party activities, and the development of the democratic evaluation system, and so on.
As for the administrative affairs, Ms. Chen MA introduced the teaching management of the Institute, and made suggestions on the detailed improvement of the routine work.
Doctoral training has always been one of the core tasks of the Institute. Doctoral supervisor, Professor Yinlan XIA in view of the diversity of the academic background of the tutors of the subject of Human Rights Law, proposed a more focused approach to training. She further put forward the issue of academic position of the Human Rights Law, which is not only an urgent need to be solved, but a key to solve the problem of student enrollment.
Doctorial supervisor and Professor Yanping QI put forward his own opinions on the understanding of Human Rights Law. He first emphasized the legal attribute of Human Rights Law. With regard to the learning objectives and methods, he creatively introduced the “Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking” Methods of the English learning into the Human Rights Law studies, which was really inspiring.
Professor Qinhuo YANG then put forward his views and opinions on the attribute and curriculum of the Institute.
The representative of the Graduate School, Baoxing XIAO made his speech then. He first answered the concerns of both the teachers and the students about the application of the Innovation Project, the update of the teaching materials and the status of the Human Rights Law subject and other issues. He then encouraged the students to actively apply for the Innovation Projects, and to make good use of the exchange programs of both the Graduate School and the Institute, in order to give full play to one’s own advantages.
Other participants then spoke out their remarks and suggestions, respectively on the issues of internship, thesis writing, the establishment of the reading party, the curriculum arrangement, the promotion of the teacher-student interaction mechanism, the enhancement of the impact of the Institute and the Subject, and so on. Some of the suggestions and problems were responded by the presented teachers. The interaction was heated.
Professor Wei ZHANG then closed the meeting by giving a concluding speech, in which he affirmed the positive results of the meeting, gave his opinions on the important issues mentioned above, and carried out a preliminary arrangement of the future relevant work.
The meeting then ended successfully. Hope the future of the Institute for Human Rights will be better through the joint efforts of both teachers and students.
