On March 30th, 2017, Professor Gong Renren from Peking University visited the Institute for Human Rights and gave a lecture on the writing of the academic paper to the students.
After the warm welcoming, Professor Gong first shared his opinions on the significance of studying human rights with the students and introduced his own study experiences, especially the experience of writing academic papers.
Professor Gong talked about the main content of the lecture in around three parts. The first one was about how to choose a topic and write an academic paper, he emphasized the importance of choosing a targeted issue at the very beginning and studying intensively step by step. He said it would be difficult for a student to write a good paper if he/she choose a very broad topic. The second part of the lecture was focused on the materials. Professor Gong shared his frequently used methods of collecting and analyzing materials and introduced some useful databases. In the third part of the lecture, Professor Gong talked about some specific research methods, such as comparison method, social survey method and theoretical analysis method and so on.
At the end of the lecture we also had a Q&A. All the students have learned a lot from this meaningful class and thanks so much for Professor Gong’s visit.
