On June 27-28, 2024, the “2024 Teachers' Seminar on Business and Human Rights”, organized by the Institute for Human Rights of China University of Political Science and Law and funded by the Norwegian Institute of Human Rights of Oslo University, was successfully held at the Wolverhampton Villa in Beijing. Experts and scholars from nearly 20 universities across the country gathered together to conduct four lectures on the theme of “Business and Human Rights”, and expressed their views and exchanged ideas on how to better promote the theoretical research and practical development of business and human rights in China.
Professor Zhang Wei, Executive Vice Dean of the Institute for Human Rights of China University of Political Science and Law, presided over the opening ceremony, and Ms. Wang Yi, Senior Advisor of the Norwegian Institute of Human Rights of Oslo University, attended the ceremony.
There were four lectures in this teacher training seminar. The first lecture “Overview of China's Human Rights Development Path and International Human Rights Law” was delivered by Prof. Zhang Wei, Executive Vide Dean of the Institute for Human Rights of China University of Political Science and Law. The second lecture, “Trends and Impact of Global Business and Human Rights Legislation”, was delivered by Associate Professor Tang Yingman, Deputy Director of the Human Rights Research Center of Nankai University. The third session on “Business and Human Rights Practices and Challenges in Global Supply Chains” was delivered by Sun Lihui, Director of Development Department of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Minerals and Chemicals. The fourth session, “Business and Human Rights: The Developing International Agenda”, was delivered by Dr. Liang Xiaohui, Deputy Chief Economist of China Textile Information Center.
At the end of the workshop, the Business and Human Rights Teachers' Seminar 2024 came to a successful conclusion amidst a round of applause from the participants.
