The Green Voice of the Times in Constructing an Autonomous Knowledge System for Human Rights in China - Academic Review of the Fifth China Human Rights Youth Forum

On December 1, 2024, the Fifth China Human Rights Youth Forum was held at Guangzhou University, co-sponsored by the Institute for Human Rights of China University of Political Science and Law, Guangzhou University Institute for Human Rights, and the School of Law of Guangdong University of Technology. With the theme of “Human Rights Civilization and China's Human Rights Development Path”, the forum attracted more than 70 experts and young scholars from many universities and research institutes across China.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhou Lulu, Vice Dean of Guangzhou University Institute for Human Rights. Liu Yunsheng, Dean of Law School of Guangzhou University and Director of Institute for Human Rights, and Chen Youwu, Dean of School of Law of Guangdong University of Technology, announced the list of excellent papers and awarded the prizes to the winning representatives.

The keynote speech session was hosted by Zhang Wei, Executive Vice Dean of the Institution for Human Rights of China University of Political Science and Law. Wang Xigen, Dean of Law School of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Director of Institute for Human Rights Law, and He Zhipeng, Dean of Law School of Jilin University, delivered keynote speeches on “Theoretical Logic of Contemporary China's Human Rights Path and Its World Significance” and “External and Internal Causes of China's Human Rights Autonomous Knowledge System Construction” respectively. Prof. Xie Hui, Professor of Institute for Human Rights of Guangzhou University, delivered the commentary.

There were also six parallel sub-forums, which focused on human rights theory and discourse, emerging rights protection, international human rights protection, business and human rights, rights of specific groups, and constitutional fundamental rights, conducting in-depth discussions.

At the closing ceremony, Xiao Shijie, VIce Director of Institute for Human Rights of Guangzhou University, presided over the closing ceremony of the forum and gave a retrospective and prospective view of the conference. Prof. Zhang Yonghe of Southwest University of Political Science and Law made an invited presentation to share insights on human rights research and education. The forum provided an important academic exchange platform for young human rights researchers and promoted the development of human rights research in China.
