Lecture: by Mr. Andrew Gilmour, Director for Political, Peace-keeping, Humanitarian, Human Rights Executive Office of the UN

September 18, 2014 -  Mr. Andrew Gilmour, Director for Political, Peace-keeping, Humanitarian, Human Rights Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General, visited CUPL and gave a lecture at the Institute for Human Rights. Prof. Wei Zhang, Co-Director of CUPL, Prof. Wen Zhan Ban, Prof. Meng Sun and the first year master's students attended the lecture.


 

The lecture took place in Room A209 of the Scientific Research Building. First, Mr. Gilmour talked about the missions and responsibilities of his work in the UN Office, and also shared some of his work experience with the students. After that, he gave an overview of qualifications and procedures in regard to hiring policies applied by the UN. 

Additionally, he mentioned that due to the shortage of funds, the Chinese officials are represented in smaller numbers at the UN system today. He suggested that the UN should devote more attention to this issue and take more efforts to improve and protect the human rights in practice. 

At the end of te lecture, Mr. Gilmour excahnged opinions with the students on the subject of massive human rights violations in some areas.
