Meeting: Human Rights Committee of the Geneva Bar Association

November 13, 2014 -  a delegation representing the Human Rights Committee of the Geneva Bar Association visited the Institute for Human Rights, and had a discussion with the first-year master's students of the Institute for Human Rights. Prof. Wei Zhang, Associate Professor, Co-Director of the Institute for Human Rights, participated in the event. 


 

At the beginning of the meeting, the lawyers from the Swiss delegation introduced themselves, their mission and tasks. Most of the lawyers specialize in criminal law litigation. They expressed their willingness to have an open communication with the students of the Institute. They used it as an opportunity to share information concerning the work of the Human Rights Committee of the Bar Association in Geneva, and discuss several acute issues, such as: new developments in the Criminal Law of Switzerland, career obstacles for female lawyers, and the problem of abandoned babies. All members of the delegation were happy to share their experience and knowledge.



At the end of the discussion, the delegation asked the students to share about the ideas and areas of their future and current research. They were very inspired by the ideas expressed by the students.
