March 12, 2015 - Professor Sun Shiyan from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences was invited to the Institute for Human Rights to give a lecture on methodology and information in relation to article 14 (right to a fair trial) of the ICCPR to the first-year master's students.
The content of Professor Sun’s lecture included 3 parts. In the first part, Prof. Sun gave a brief general introduction to the ICCPR. Then, he talked about the supervisory mechanism of the ICCPR. The final part was about the methodology and information of the ICCPR. Professor Sun mentioned that the first-hand information should be put in the first place. Besides, some valuable scholars’ works are also essential during a research. However, he also pointed out that some scholars’ research work was less rigorous and valid. When discussing article 14 of the ICCPR, Prof. Sun demonstarted some first-hand information, like individual communications, national reports, etc.
Professor Sun's delivered the lecture in a unique style, in accordance with his professional academic reserach level and humorous touch, which earned a popular welcome from all students. He also encouraged the students to be more serious and rigorous in their studies.
