Professor Renren GONG from Peking University Gave A Lecture Named the Misunderstanding of John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau in China for A Century

On the afternoon of April 20, Professor Renren GONG from Peking University was well welcomed by the Institute for Human Rights and gave a lecture named the Misunderstanding of John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau in China for A Century. The main object of the lecture was the two outstanding representative personages of the Age of Enlightenment, John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who have had a significant influence in the thought of human rights. The Co-Director of the Institute, Professor Wei ZHANG hosted the lecture.

Professor Renren GONG first introduced the life experiences and magnum opuses of John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, in addition with the misunderstanding of the two by Chinese. He then pointed out that John Locke's ideological value was greatly underestimated in China than Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Therefore, there are needs for in-depth discussion of their thoughts.

Critical thinking concerning freedom and equality was then arisen because of the in-depth lecture. Professor Renren GONG then gave his opinion that only with the promotion of both the freedom and equality can make Human Rights better protected, and make the society better developed.

The lecture ended successfully with the taking of the group photo.
