Prof. Ahn Kyong-Whan Visited the Institute for Human Rights

17 May, 2017-Prof. Ahn Kyong-Whan from Seoul University Visited the Institute for Human Rights, and delivered an excellent speech to the first-year master students at the Institute. Prof. Zhang Wei and Prof. Yang Qinhuo also attended the lecture.

 

    The topic of the lecture is Human Rights in Korea At the Dawn of  Moon(文在寅)Era. Firstly, Prof. Ahn Kyong-Whan sorted out the recent events in South Korea, and introduced the whole story of Park Geun-hye impeachment event. So he called the election as an emergency election. Then he told the students his opinion about President Moon Jae in what kind of president from various aspects of family background, education, work experience and so on.

Secondly, he introduced what kind of challenges will be faced by President Moon Jae in. Prof. Ahn pointed out that even president won the election, but he only received 40% of the vote.

Finally, Prof. Ahn pointed out the human rights problems faced by South Korea: the death penalty, the security bill, based on conscience refused to military service and other problems. Prof. Ann made a summary of his speech: wherever the road leads, the path of human rights will eventually converge. Although there are detours, people still want to move on. The path to human rights has no end. This is also the importance and significance of our study of human rights law, which is to strive for the development of mankind and to protect the rights of disadvantaged groups.

The lectures ended in a relaxed atmosphere. Students took photos with the professor and look forward to his next visit.
