A Seminar Named Academic Writing Training 2017 was Held on June 29, 2017

Held by the Institute for Human Rights, a seminar named Academic Writing Training 2017 was held on June 29, 2017 in the Meeting Room B210 at Research Building, China University of Political Science and Law.

 

 

 

The moderator of the seminar was Professor Zhang Wei, the Co-Director of the Institute for Human Rights. Professor Bert Lockwood who is the Editor-in-Chief of Human Rights Quarterly, Ms. Liesbeth Kanis who is the Managing Director and Sales Director of Asia-Pacific, Brill Asia, Professor Sun Shiyan and Professor Huang Jinrong from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Zhu Lijiang from the International Law School of the China University of Political Science and Law, and Professor Shan Chun and Associate Professor Sun Meng from the Institute for Human Rights, together with other teachers and students from China University of Political Science and Law and Peking University attended the seminar.

 

 

 

At two oclock, the seminar began with the opening remarks given by Professor Zhang Wei who expressed the warm welcoming by the Institute for Human Rights for the coming of all the guests.

 

 

 

After that, Professor Bert Lockwood, the Editor-in-Chief of Human Rights Quarterly gave his remarks on Introductory Remarks with Regards to Academic Writing. As the Editor-in-Chief of Human Rights Quarterly, he introduced the establishment and the history of the Human Rights Quarterly and his story with it. Then he introduced his working experience of accepting articles and his suggestions on which kind of academic writing is more acceptable by the Human Rights Quarterly. After his remarks, the floor was opened for questions and discussions. Questions were asked regarding the accept of the articles, the proper length of the accepted articles, the amount of the articles submitted per year, the source of the articles and other issues related to the Human Rights Quarterly.

 

 

 

After the tea break, Ms. Liesbeth Kanis, the Managing Director and Sales Director of Asia-Pacific, Brill Asia then gave her remarks on How to Get Your Research Published Internationally? At the very beginning of her remarks, she asked about and the professors at the seminar shared their experience in submitting their articles in English and how did they deal with the remarks from the editors. Then after the professors attended the seminar discussed the difference between publishing in China and abroad, she gave her presentation on introduction to Brill, Brill in China, publications highlights concerning International Law, publishing with Brill, and abstracting and indexing at Brill. At the end of her presentation, she encouraged the attended to submit their articles.

 

 

 

The seminar then ended successfully.
