Course: International Human Rights Law (by Professor Gudmundur ALFREDSSON)
November 24, 2015-Prof. Gudmundur ALFREDSSON,special-term Professor of Institute for Human Rights at CUPL, gave classes to first-year Master Students and some Ph.D. students. He divided the course into five lessons to the Institute of Human Rights this time, the main content of his classes was about International Human Right. Prof. Wei ZHANG, Associate Professor,Co-Director of the Institute also joined the class.
Before the class, Professor GUDMUNDUR gave students the teaching outline to let them have the structure of the course, and could search some important websites and read some articles, in this way the students could follow him and ask questions what they are interested in. In the first class, Prof. Gudmundur introduced some bodies which engaged in human rights, including several UN system special agencies and other bodies like regional organizations. And the organizations which involved in human rights work such as Inter-government Organizations. The next class, Prof. Gudmundur generally presented the human rights instruments to students. In the third class, since the students had a basic understanding of international human rights. Prof.Gudmundur made an overview of UN bodies which engaged in the monitoring of the compliance by States with their human rights obligations. In the fourth class,he talked about Charter-based bodies, treaty-based bodies, Human Rights Council, consultative status for NGOs under the Economic and Social Council. Inthe last lesson, Prof. Gudmundur raised a question that if it is necessary to establish an international human rights court, the students ??think?????? seriously ??about ????this question and expressed their view about it, then Prof.Gudmundur explained his view about this issue and responsed some questions what the students raised.??
From the five lessons, the students not only learn more about international human rights, but also exercised their speaking English. Prof. Gudmundur will give students the classes about minority rights protection the next semester, all students are really looking forward to listening his lectures next time.
