Prosperity, Security, and Human Rights Protection in the New Era: Academic Symposium Commemorating the 35th Anniversary of the Promulgation of the Hong Kong Basic Law and the 32nd Anniversary of the Macao Basic Law Successfully Held​​

On June 1st, the academic symposium titled "Prosperity, Security, and Human Rights Protection in the New Era: Commemorating the 35th Anniversary of the Promulgation of the Hong Kong Basic Law and the 32nd Anniversary of the Macao Basic Law" was grandly held in Guangzhou. Jointly organized by the National Security Research Center and Institute for Human Rights (Institute for Contemporary Rule of Law) at Guangdong University of Technology, the Institute for Human Rights Studies (Institute for Contemporary Rule of Law) at China University of Political Science and Law, and the Macao Innovation Development Think Tank, with the Law School of Guangdong University of Technology as the host, the event gathered over 80 experts and scholars from renowned universities and research institutions across mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. These included participants from National Defense University, Renmin University of China, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Jilin University, Central South University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Minzu University of China, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, East China University of Political Science and Law, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Yunnan University, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Guizhou University of Finance and Economics, The University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, University of Macau, City University of Macau, South China University of Technology, Jinan University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, Guangzhou University, Zhaoqing University, Haojiang Law Society, and the Hong Kong Policy Research Institute.

The symposium featured two parallel forums. The first focused on "National Security Legislation and Human Rights Protection" and "National Security Legislation and Rights Practice", while the second explored "Security Governance and Legal Innovation" and "Regional Coordination and Legal Development". Experts engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as national security legislation, the relationship between national security and human rights protection, the practice of "One Country, Two Systems," and collaborative governance and rights protection in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Contributions were made from theoretical frameworks, institutional design, and practical pathways, offering fresh insights to promote economic prosperity in the special administrative regions, refine national security legal systems, and enhance human rights protection frameworks. These efforts aim to advance legal integration and high-quality development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
