Lecture: Diplomacy and Human Rights (by Mr. Jacques)

March 26, 2015 - Jacques Pellet, Deputy Chief of Mission, French Embassy in Beijing, visited the CUPL and delivered a lecture to students at the Institute for Human Rights. Prof. Yang Qinhuo attended the lecture.

 



The topic of the lecture was diplomacy and human rights in Geneva. In the beginning, Mr. Pellet emphasized that human rights are universal. He indicated that the purpose of establishing international human rights standards is to set a platform for states to collaborate and communicate in the field of human rights. Apart from that, Mr. Pellet also introduced the duty of an ambassador in terms of promotion and protection of human rights. They include: finding collaboration partners, defending their country when it comes to skepticism about human rights protection. Mr. Pellet also explained that at the international level collaboration is one of the important approaches to human rights protection.

 


In the later part of the lecture, Mr. Pellet carefully answered several questions raised by the students. Finally, the lecture ended with a group picture.
