Lecture: Research Methodology and Materials on Human Rights Law

On October 10, 2017, at the invitation of Professor Zhang, the Co-director of the Institute for Human Rights, Professor Sun Shiyan from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences delivered a lecture entitled research methodology and materials on human rights law. Professor Yang Qinhuo and students from three grades attended the lecture.

There are two parts of the lecture: research methodology and ways to find materials on human rights law.

At the beginning, Professor Sun discussed two questions with students: where is the human rights law and what should be learned in this area, of which the answer was paying attention to its past life and implementation, the former history of legislation and theory, the latter mechanisms based on international treaties and charters. 

The second part was about research materials on human rights law. Professor Sun showed how to make good use of some main human rights websites such as OHCHR. He introduced not materials on history of legislation related to important international covenants on human rights but arrangements for the translation progress of these materials conducted by him and his colleagues.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Sun answered patiently to students’ questions about a specific case and publication of relevant materials mentioned before. The 2.5-hour lecture ended in a pleasant atmosphere and all students looked forward to his coming next time.
