In accordance with China University of Political Science and Law Academic Master’s Student Training Regulations and Master’s Training Program for Human Rights Law of Institute For Human Rights (2019 Revision), the Institute hereby announces the arrangements for the mid-term assessment and thesis topic selection and defense for master’s students of 2022 as follows:
I. Schedule for Mid-Term Assessment and Thesis Topic Selection and Defense
The Institute tentatively plans to conduct the mid-term assessment and thesis topic selection and defense in late May 2024. Specific dates and venues will be notified separately.
II. Submission Timeline and Requirements
(1) Submission of Academic Records
In accordance with China University of Political Science and Law Academic Master’s Student Training Regulations, the mid-term assessment will be carried out after completing the course study and other training links stipulated in the training program and completing the prescribed credits.
a. Fourth-Semester Reading Reports and Term Papers
Supervisors must complete grading and enter scores for term papers and reading reports via the Graduate Integrated Management System by 15:00 on May 6.
【Attention: Students must submit materials through the system by a deadline set by their supervisors. Supervisors are advised to notify students promptly to ensure timely preparation.】
b. Professional Practice and Other Academic Materials
Master’s Students of 2022 should submit the academic materials according to the following requirements.
Submission Time: 10:00 – 11:00 AM, May 6
Method: Submit hard copies to the office of Institute For Human Rights.
Materials: Professional practice materials and other academic records required by the training program to be submitted prior to the mid-term assessment.
【Attention: Professional practice records must include CUPL Academic Master’s Student Professional Practice Evaluation Form (hard copy and scanned copy), signed and graded by both the internship organization and supervisor; and scanned copies may be sent to the academic office email. (Form downloadable from the Graduate School website). On the form’s cover page, under "Internship Organization", specify: Organization Name + Internship Start/End Dates (e.g., [Organization Name] + MM/DD/YYYY – MM/DD/YYYY).】
(2) Submission of Mid-Term and Thesis Topic Selection and Defense Materials for Supervisor Approval
Deadline: May 13
Master’s students should log in to the Graduate Student Comprehensive Management System before May 13, carefully fill out the CUPL Master's Degree Candidate Mid-Term Assessment Form and the CUPL Graduate Thesis/Dissertation Topic Selection and Proposal Form with detailed, accurate, and complete information (Note: For Part I "Basic Information" of the Proposal Form under "Thesis Topic Status - Main Content (Abstract)", a full paper outline containing three-level headings must be included). After submission for instructor review, ensure supervisors have sufficient time to examine and approve the documents.
Important Notes:
CUPL Master's Degree Candidate Mid-Term Assessment Form: Students should submit the form through the system and remind supervisors to provide comments and approve within the platform. After system approval, download the printed version with supervisor's electronic comments and obtain the supervisor's signature on the physical document.
CUPL Graduate Thesis/Dissertation Topic Selection and Proposal Form: Submit the form through the system and download the printed version for signature by the supervisor.
(3) Final Submission to the Institute
Submission Time: 10:00 – 11:00 AM, May 20
Method:
(i) Hard copies to the Institute office.
(ii) Electronic copies to the academic office email with the subject line: “2022 Master + Name + Mid-Term & Proposal”.
Materials Required (all double-sided printed):
ATTENTION: Incomplete materials will not be accepted; Late submissions will be deemed as withdrawal from the process.
(i) CUPL Graduate Academic Progress Report and Evaluation Form (signed by supervisor; download from Graduate School website).
【Attention: First, please have your supervisor fill in the approval opinions in the system. After downloading the form, request the supervisor to sign it. The downloaded form will automatically display the supervisor’s electronic approval comments.】
(ii) CUPL Master’s Student Mid-Term Screening and Evaluation Form (signed by supervisor, with attached transcripts; original hard copy + scanned signed copy).
(iii) CUPL Graduate Thesis Proposal and Defense Form (signed by supervisor; original hard copy + scanned signed copy).
【Attention: Bring 6 copies of the signed Thesis Topic Selection and Defense Form to the assessment and defense session.】
III. Key Notes
(1) The mid-term assessment of graduate students, as well as the selection and proposal of their dissertations, are among the most important components of postgraduate education and teaching. Supervisors and graduate students should attach great importance to the significance and role of this work, earnestly study, comprehend, and implement the guiding principles and regulations stipulated in the official documents of both the university and the institute, and ensure the work is completed on schedule and with high quality.
(2) Graduate students shall strictly comply with the regulations and requirements stipulated in the official documents of both the university and the institute, and carefully, thoroughly, and accurately complete the following forms: CUPL Graduate Academic Progress Report and Evaluation Form, CUPL Master's Degree Candidate Mid-Term Assessment Screening and Placement Registration Form, CUPL Graduate Thesis/Dissertation Topic Selection and Proposal Form.
(3) Supervisors shall strictly fulfill their supervisory duties in accordance with university and Institute regulations, promptly guiding and overseeing doctors in completing and submitting required documentation. Upon receiving submitted materials, supervisors must thoroughly review the candidate’s academic progress and mid-term assessment requirements, rigorously evaluate and revise the thesis topic selection and defense content to prevent procedural or substantive discrepancies, and provide detailed and accurate feedback and evaluations in writing.
