People's Daily Online, Berlin, July 4th (Reporter Liu Zhonghua) - On July 2nd local time, the China Foundation for Human Rights Development, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of China to the UN Office at Geneva and Geneva Universal Rights Organization, successfully hosted a side event titled "Safeguarding Environmental Rights in the Context of Climate Change" at the Palace of Nations in Geneva. Experts from non-governmental organizations in China and other countries engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics including environmental rights protection, climate policies, green development and collaborative cooperation, and environmental protection achievements in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and Taklimakan Desert regions.
Yang Bochao, Vice President of the Institute for Human Rights of China University of Political Science and Law, stated that climate change and the environmental crisis are common challenges concerning the future of all humanity. All countries, especially developed countries, should earnestly practice genuine multilateralism and work together to strengthen and improve environmental protection mechanisms under the UN framework. Developed countries should take the lead in enhancing their emissions reduction plans and fulfill their commitments on climate finance and technology transfer to developing countries. Only through joint efforts can an equitable and robust global environmental governance system be established to address the shared crisis.
